Dreaming of your next big holiday? Thinking about going on a cruise ship but want to know more? Our Senior Travel Consultant Annie Clougherty went aboard the Saga spirit of Discovery cruise ship. Check out her thoughts below.
I recently went to visit the brand-new Saga Spirit of Discovery cruise ship which is based from Dover, she had her maiden voyage on the 5th July and the naming ceremony was performed by the Duchess of Cornwall who is the Godmother.
The Spirit of Discovery is a medium sized ship carrying 999 guests and weighing 58,000 tonnes but the most impressive fact is that all of the cabins feature private balconies and they average at 215 square feet which is very generous.
When I arrived in my cabin, I was very impressed with the storage space provided in the cabin and in the bathroom. The bathroom was very spacious and the shower was amazing. There was a good-sized balcony with 2 chairs and a table.
The ship has been furnished in a modern style and there are plenty of relaxing areas to sit in a comfortable chair and have a coffee. Afternoon tea is served daily with fresh scones and cakes. There is a choice of restaurants from Oriental, Seafood and the Grand dining room and then the signature restaurant is called The Club by Jools Holland. A fine steakhouse and I was lucky enough to dine in here and the food was superb. After dinner we then went to the stylish tiered theatre to see a West End style show which was very good.
There is a good sized pool on deck and I was very impressed with the large spa which had 2 different temperature saunas, a steam room and a large Jacuzzi, it was almost as big as a pool.
The Spirit of Discovery will be cruising the British Isles, The Baltic, The Canaries, Mediterranean, Norway, USA and Caribbean.
