Located in Maldon, Mrs. Salisbury’s is very much the quintessential British tea room. It is full of charm and character and spills out onto a quiet courtyard; the perfect place to spend an hour or two. We sat down with Andrea (Mrs. Salisbury herself!) to chat all things independent over a cuppa and a fruit scone.
Good morning, Andrea and thank you for speaking with us! When did you start Mrs. Salisbury’s?
The tea room opened back in March 2014. We’re a tea shop but we also sell a range of sweet treats and meals, such as toasted sandwiches and afternoon tea with champagne cocktails!
So what was it that made you decide to open your own tea room?
I have a keen interest in food and pleasing people!
You do both very well! What is it about Maldon that makes it the ideal place for your business?
Maldon is perfect for Mrs. Salisbury’s Famous Tea Rooms. There are many young retired people that use it for their daily meet. Not to mention the fact that Maldon receives so many visitors from outside towns.
Why do you believe it is so important to shop with independent businesses?
Quite simply, if we don’t use them, they’ll no longer be there.
Your customers are all passionate about the shop, why do you think that is?
We give a much more personal service. Myself and my staff really care about what we do and have fun doing it!
Finally, what local event are you most looking forward to in Maldon this summer?
We always look forward to the warm weather when we welcome many tourists to the town. If you’re in the area, we’d love to see you.
